Unhanded

Saturday night, our long-time pal Joey So had a gallery opening downtown Toronto. Kauf and I went to check it out.
His work is wonderful: a blend of watercolours, guaches and inks that he layers through a process he calls "reverse masking". Using all sorts of substrates to mask and apply the colours, he creates very organic and structured pieces.
I was incredibly impressed and inspired.
I took a bunch of photos of the growing crowd of minglers -- but no close-ups of the work!
I'm a genious!

Owwww!!!

Well I got the tat --. Even though he wasn't there, Paul Watling seems to know exactly how it went down. The pic is mere moments after the ink was done -- and seconds before the hair grew back in and covered it over.

Portraits

"Daddy Without Cofee(sic)" -- ballpoint on pink construction paper -- 2007
My 10-yr-old daughter is constantly drawing. Her latest creation is a portrait of me. I'm flattered that she made me so thin -- I'm a little heavy in the eye-liner department, but it's definitely me.

"Johnny Depp" -- pencil on bond paper -- 2007

The latest pic on our fridge is a drawing she did for my wife. Good ol' Johnny Depp.

Uh-oh --- here we go...

Well she's started early.
Emma has already begun her red-carpet stalking ways. On Monday she heard that her absolutely favourite-est movie-star, Zac Efron was in town for the Canadian Premiere of Hairspray. So she and her mom went to see if they could get a glimpse of him at a taping of Much on Demand downtown. Only being able to get a few far-away snapshots through the crowds of screaming girls, they went to the Elgin Theatre to try for a better look on the red carpet.
No luck there either.
After a quick bite to eat they went back and sat out behind the theatre to wait for the film to finish -- and sure enough out walked Zac! He stopped and posed for this pic -- and even called her "sweetie".
I'm sure the smile will last a few more weeks.

Tat -- modified

I've worked in the heraldic cat from the old Thornton family crest -- and tried to put a tiki spin on it.

Here we go again....

After dozens of failed attempts at maintaining a blog, I've started up again. Here are some old Flash designs I did a few years back -- The pig and snail were for a Dr. Dolittle series that never went anywhere...
the astronaut ... just a doodle.
